The original center of winter sports activities in the Blue Hills Reservation was located in Quincy. Named after the location of the 1928 Olympics in Switzerland, the "St. Moritz of the South Shore" was dedicated on January 27, 1929 at a ceremony attended by 15,000 people. Included in the facility were ponds for skiing and a ski jump.
